Description
11-2-13, Lincoln, NE. The battle of the NU's turns out to be a crazy back and forth college classic. NU's vaunted offense is missing 6 first line players: J. Turner, J. Cotton, S. Long, J. Long, K. Bell, and Taylor Martinez. But "next man up" proves to be a mantra that works for Nebraska as we overcome a 21-14 halftime deficit and nip Northwestern on a classic 50 yard hail Mary on the last play of the game. With four seconds remaining, 3rd team QB, and senior leader and former walk-on, Ron Kellogg III, buys time as he shuffles around the pocket waiting for his receivers to travel the 50 yards to the end zone. He launches a perfect spiral, arcing 60 yards in the crisp dusk air to a cluster of purple and red on the 2 yard line. The group of receivers and defenders collide and the ball careens off the top of the pile to a lone wide-eyed Husker, Jordan Westerkamp, who cuts back toward the ball and snaps it out of the air 6 inches past the goal line and the ref immediately raises his arms into the sky. The crowd erupts from its bated agony into a jubilee of screams and high fives - strangers hugging each other in euphoric embraces. Huskers win 27-24! A must-see-to-believe finish. Move over Matt Davison '97 kick catch? Not quite, but close! Entire game as filmed by Huskers Vision, complete with radio play by play. Includes post game interviews with Ron Kellogg and Jordan Westerkamp. 112 minutes, DVD video.
